Honoring People & Place

We live and worship on the unceded territory of the Ramaytush Ohlone people, the ancestral caretakers of this land. The health of our planet is in a state of crisis and we have largely treated the land as a limitless resource for our use rather than a sibling in creation whose health and thriving are tied to our own. The Ohlone people show us an entirely different way: a way of harmony and reciprocity in which we can live in greater communion with all that God has made. We have been learning from indigenous leaders like Randy Woodley and Robin Wall Kimmerer, and we desire to reflect and live into this better way.

We recognize land acknowledgments are not reparations. Common Table and members of this community pay a land tax to support Segorea Te' Land Trust––an urban Indigenous women-led land trust in the Bay Area that is engaged in rematriating the land, public education, land care, and cultural revitalization. This Shuumi (or gift) is a small step towards acknowledging the history of genocide on this land and contributing to its healing.
